Working as Liaison with Local EmployersSIEDC continues to serve as a liaison between local employers and various state and local entities offering business assistance. This past year, SIEDC worked with Seneca Medical and its expansion by offering state assistance for training through the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services. Toledo Molding & Die Company also expanded through assistance from SIEDC and ODJFS and added over 120 jobs from January 2010. In addition, business was moved from another TMD facility that would have lost to Ohio except for the training that was offered to retrain existing employees. Taiho Corporation of America also took advantage of employee training programs as did Webster Manufacturing, National Machinery and Ballreich's. We are also working with Owens Corning and a possible expansion in the new year.
Neighborhood RevitalizationSIEDC acquired the former Bradley Building in July, 2010, and will begin remodeling for the new offices that will house the Seneca County Convention and Visitor's Bureau, the Tiffin Chamber of Commerce and SIEDC. The office will include a community meeting room, board room, as well as improved office flow and enhanced image.
Downtown Tiffin Redevelopment PlanSIEDC successfully raised $142,000 of the $150,000 needed to finance the Downtown Tiffin Redevelopment Plan.
American Civil War MuseumSIEDC developed the plans for the American Civil War Museum of Ohio, obtained state approvals for the project, raised $551,400 for the renovation of the former post office. The museum opened in Jan of 2011.
Glass House RemediationSIEDC completed the remediation of the former glass house property after obtaining $1.3 million in Clean Ohio Funding for the project. The cleaned-up site will allow Tiffin Paper Company to expand and add new business and employees.
Tiffin University Indoor Athletic ComplexSIEDC worked with Tiffin University on the clean-up of the former Rosenblatt site which is to be the new home for TU's indoor athletic complex. SIEDC has signed for the property during the clean up and $1 million in financing. Once the clean up is completed, TU will assume ownership and move ahead with it's plans for construction. Without this partnership, the project could have been jeopardized.
